Swansea City have agreed a deal to sign Ghana international forward Joseph Opoku from Belgian side Zulte Waregem, beating competition from clubs across England and Europe.
The Championship club moved swiftly to secure the 21-year-old striker, who had attracted strong interest from Hull City, Genoa, Trabzonspor, Krasnodar and Real Sociedad after a breakthrough season in Belgium’s top flight.
While the transfer fee and contract length have not yet been disclosed, Swansea are understood to have made Opoku a key part of their long-term attacking plans as they look to bolster their promotion ambitions.
Rising star of Belgian football
Opoku’s move follows an impressive debut campaign in the Jupiler Pro League, where he established himself as one of the standout young forwards in the division.
Across 33 league appearances for Zulte Waregem, he scored 10 goals and provided five assists, underlining both his eye for goal and his creative impact in the final third.
That contribution helped elevate his profile beyond Belgium, with scouts from several leagues tracking his progress as he transitioned from promising youth international to full Ghana senior player.
The forward’s performances saw him regularly highlighted in Belgian media as one of the season’s revelations, with his pace, movement and composure in front of goal drawing particular praise.
From youth prospect to Black Stars international
Opoku’s club form has translated into recognition on the international stage.
Earlier this year he earned his first senior cap for Ghana, stepping up from the country’s Under-20 set-up, where he had previously featured as one of the side’s most highly rated attacking prospects.
