Joseph Opoku: Swansea Eye Move for Zulte Waregem’s Ghanaian Winger

Ghanaian winger Joseph Opoku of Zulte Waregem is being linked with a move to Championship side Swansea City as the Welsh club assess wide attacking options ahead of the new season.

Opoku, 20, is currently under contract with the Belgian Jupiler Pro League club until 30 June 2027, meaning Swansea would need to negotiate a fee rather than pursue a pre-contract arrangement. The left winger is regarded as a saleable asset for Zulte Waregem, with his market value estimated at around €4.5 million, a figure that is expected to shape any talks between the clubs.

Swansea’s interest comes as they continue to target younger players with resale potential from continental leagues, with Belgium’s top flight viewed as a fertile recruitment ground. A move for Opoku would fit that approach, with the Championship side looking to refresh their options on the flanks.

At Zulte Waregem, Opoku has established himself in the first-team picture in the Belgian top tier, gaining regular exposure to senior football at a competitive level. His experiences there have underpinned the growing attention from clubs in more prominent European leagues.

With three years remaining on his deal, Zulte Waregem are under no pressure to sell quickly and are expected to drive a hard bargain if Swansea formalise their interest. For now, Opoku remains contracted to the Belgian club until 2027, giving his current side a strong position in any potential negotiations.
