South African coach Pitso Mosimane has predicted that Mamelodi Sundowns will emerge victorious in the upcoming CAF Champions League final against Raja Casablanca, insisting that the South African side possess the experience and quality needed to secure Africa’s biggest club prize.
Mosimane, the former Al Ahly manager and one of Africa’s most decorated coaches, made the remarks in comments published by iDiski Times. His assessment of the final has generated strong reactions among some Moroccan supporters after he questioned Raja Casablanca’s pedigree in continental competition.
The CAF Champions League final will pit two of Africa’s notable clubs against one another, with Sundowns aiming to add another continental title to their history while Raja Casablanca seek to upset the South African giants.
Speaking ahead of the showdown, Mosimane expressed complete confidence in Sundowns’ ability to lift the trophy.
“Sundowns will undoubtedly win this. They have the players to win this prestigious tournament, and the coach has gained confidence by playing in two finals. Now he believes he is capable of winning.”
The veteran coach pointed to Sundowns’ squad strength and growing experience in major continental matches as decisive factors that could separate the two sides during the final.
Mosimane also appeared to downplay Raja Casablanca’s history in the competition, arguing that the Moroccan side lacks the level of experience required to triumph on the biggest stage in African club football.
“The team Sundowns are playing against does not have experience in winning the African Champions League. They are not a very big team. Of course, they are an organized team, but the South African team will win.”
His comments quickly drew attention, particularly among Raja supporters, with many viewing the remarks as dismissive of the Moroccan club’s stature and capabilities ahead of such a significant match.
Despite his confidence in Sundowns, Mosimane acknowledged the importance of organization and discipline in the CAF Champions League, a competition widely regarded as one of the toughest tournaments in African football.
“As you know, that’s how the African Champions League is. When you’re organized, things are fine, but I say remember that I won this tournament with a team that is incomparable to the current Sundowns.”
Mosimane’s history in African football adds considerable weight to his opinions. During his managerial career, he enjoyed major success with Al Ahly and has consistently been associated with achievements at the highest level of the continental game.
Attention will now turn to the first leg of the CAF Champions League final, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 17 May. The match between Raja Casablanca and Mamelodi Sundowns will kick off at 5:00 PM Cairo time.
The encounter is expected to attract widespread interest across the continent as two ambitious clubs battle for African football’s most prestigious club title.
