Morocco-Belgium midfielder Sofian Kiyine has joined Olympic Charleroi on a free transfer from Stockay, stepping up a tier into the Belgian 1ste Nationale FFA.
The 28-year-old central midfielder moves after half a season with Stockay, where he had arrived in January on another free transfer. His switch to Charleroi is a permanent move and was completed on 17 July 2026.
Kiyine returns to a higher competitive level in Belgium, having previously featured in the Jupiler Pro League with OH Leuven, for whom he made 27 league appearances and scored twice. His performances there followed several years in Italy, including spells in Serie A and Serie B.
The Verviers-born player has built a substantial career in Italian football, accumulating over 120 league appearances across Serie A, Serie B and Serie C with clubs including Lazio, Venezia, Salernitana and Chievo Verona. In Serie B alone he played 70 times, scoring 12 goals and providing seven assists.
Primarily a right-footed central midfielder, Kiyine also brings notable cup experience, having appeared in both the Coppa Italia and youth competitions in Italy, where he recorded further goals. His peak market valuation previously reached €3m, reflecting the standing he once held in one of Europe’s top leagues.
Kiyine, who holds both Moroccan and Belgian nationality, came through the youth system at Standard Liege before moving to Italy as a teenager, and now returns once more to Belgian football with Olympic Charleroi on a free transfer from Stockay.
