Simba eye free-agent goalkeeper  Nwabali ahead of new season

Tanzanian football club Simba SC are closely assessing the possibility of signing Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali as they prepare for the upcoming season, despite already having a sizeable goalkeeping department.

The club, one of Tanzania’s most prominent sides, is understood to be monitoring the 29-year-old, who is currently without a team following his recent departure from South African outfit Chippa United. His availability on a free transfer is seen as a potential opportunity for Simba as they look to strengthen their squad.

Simba presently have five goalkeepers on their books, including Ally Salim, Yakoub Suleiman, Moussa Camara and Mahamadou Tanja. Notably, four of these players are actively involved with their respective national teams, highlighting the depth and quality already within the squad.

However, sources indicate that the club may consider offloading one of their current goalkeepers in order to maintain balance within their wage structure. Such a move would create space for a new addition, with Nwabali emerging as a leading candidate.

The Nigerian international left Chippa United earlier this year, in February, despite having a contract that was set to run until June 2026. His departure was described as unexpected, but he later explained the reasoning behind his decision.

Describing his departure as a difficult but necessary decision, Nwabali emphasized that career growth and personal happiness were key factors behind the move.

Since leaving the South African side, the goalkeeper has been training on his own while awaiting a new opportunity. His experience and status as a free agent have made him an attractive option for clubs seeking to reinforce their squads without incurring a transfer fee.

Simba believe that acquiring a player of Nwabali’s calibre could provide a boost not only to their domestic ambitions but also to their performances in continental competitions. The club is currently second in the Tanzanian Premier League standings, a position that would secure qualification for the CAF Champions League if maintained.

With aspirations of competing strongly both within Tanzania and across Africa, Simba are expected to continue tracking Nwabali’s situation in the lead-up to the summer transfer window.

While no formal offer has been confirmed, the club’s interest signals a potential reshaping of their goalkeeping options as they seek to remain competitive on multiple fronts.
