The French Football Federation is working to finalise an agreement over player bonuses for the 2026 FIFA World Cup 2026, with the governing body keen to remove any off-field uncertainty before the France national football team begin their tournament campaign.
At the centre of the discussions is a push by federation president Philippe Diallo to ensure that financial arrangements for players are settled before the squad departs on 10 June. The intention is to allow the team to concentrate fully on football matters as they prepare for the global tournament, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Diallo confirmed that discussions with the players have already taken place and that further talks are expected in the coming days as both sides attempt to reach a conclusion.
“I had a discussion with the players a few days ago; a number of further talks will continue. On both sides, we want this matter to be completely finalized before the France team leaves on June 10, so that the squad can focus solely on the sporting tournament. The players made me a proposal. I need to get back in touch with them so we can finalize everything at the start of the week,” declared the FFF boss on the sidelines of a general assembly in Ajaccio.
The federation’s leadership is determined that head coach Didier Deschamps and his squad enter the competition without distractions linked to contractual or financial disputes. France, among the leading contenders for the World Cup, are expected to assemble shortly before heading into their final preparation phase.
According to reports from L’Équipe, the structure of World Cup bonuses could be reduced compared with previous tournaments. Although no official agreement has been confirmed, the suggestion reflects wider financial considerations being discussed within the federation.
Those considerations are linked to broader planning outlined during the FFF’s general assembly in Ajaccio, where a projected budget of approximately €322 million for the 2026–2027 season was presented. The scale of spending associated with the upcoming World Cup cycle has placed additional focus on financial discipline within the organisation.
It has also been reported that the federation may need the team to reach at least the quarter-finals of the tournament in order to balance its World Cup budget, underlining the financial stakes connected to on-field performance.

As negotiations continue, the priority for the federation remains ensuring that all bonus-related matters are resolved swiftly before departure. Officials are seeking to avoid any disruption within the camp and maintain a clear focus on sporting objectives.
Further meetings between player representatives and federation officials are expected at the start of the coming week, with both sides aiming to reach a final settlement before the France squad leaves on 10 June for their World Cup preparations.
