Senegal U15 boys’ team have been crowned champions of the CAF African Schools Football Championship after defeating Uganda in a dramatic penalty shootout.
The final, played on Friday, 10 April 2026, ended goalless after regulation time, forcing both sides into penalties where Senegal held their nerve to win 5-4 and secure their first title in the competition.
The victory marks a significant milestone for Senegal’s youth football development, especially after recent near misses.
The Young Lions had finished third in 2024 and lost in the 2025 final to Tanzania, but this time they went one step further to lift the trophy.
Coached by Ousmane Diop, Senegal entered the final with confidence following an emphatic 4-0 victory over Morocco in the semi-finals.
However, the clash against Uganda proved to be far more challenging.
The final was a tightly contested and tactical encounter, with both teams struggling to break each other down.
Senegal attempted to control possession and impose their attacking style, led by captain Bara Guèye, but Uganda’s disciplined defensive structure kept them at bay.
After a balanced first half, the match remained deadlocked at 0-0. Uganda came out stronger after the break, creating two clear chances but failing to convert.
Senegal gradually regained control and pushed forward with repeated attacks, yet they were unable to find a breakthrough.
With neither side able to score, the match went to penalties, a test of composure under pressure.
Senegal were flawless from the spot.
Alassane Fall opened the scoring in the shootout, followed by successful conversions from Bara Guèye, Pierre Mbengue and Cheikh Omar Sy. Camara then stepped up to convert the decisive fifth penalty.
Uganda matched Senegal’s efforts for most of the shootout, but their final attempt was saved by the Senegalese goalkeeper, sealing a 5-4 victory and sparking celebrations among the West African side.
The triumph highlights Senegal’s continued investment in grassroots football, with the African Schools Championship serving as a key platform for nurturing young talent across the continent.
The competition also carries financial rewards aimed at supporting development in participating schools. Senegal, as champions, will receive $300,000, while Uganda earn $200,000 as runners-up.
The success of Senegal U15 team reinforces the country’s growing reputation as a powerhouse in African football development.
From recent youth achievements to senior-level success, the nation continues to produce talented players capable of competing at the highest level.
For these young players, the victory represents not just a title, but a stepping stone toward future opportunities in both club and international football.
