Sassuolo face tough test as in-form Lazio chase another Serie A win

Lazio travel to face Sassuolo in the ninth round of Serie A, with the visitors arriving as one of the division’s leading sides and the hosts looking to halt a run of poor results.

Sassuolo have made an uncertain return to Serie A after a stronger start to the campaign. They sit 14th in the table with eight points, four clear of the relegation places.

A home fixture and the backing of their supporters could give the green-and-blacks opportunities against Lazio, although stopping the visitors in their current form will be a difficult task.

Sassuolo have lost both of their past two matches. They were beaten 4-2 away by Frosinone before suffering a 2-0 defeat at home to Como.

Lazio in strong form

Lazio occupy second place with 22 points and trail Inter only on additional criteria. Competition at the top of Serie A is expected to intensify as the season progresses, but the bookmakers still rate the Rome-based club highly, despite offering a relatively attractive price on an away victory.

Lazio’s most recent performance was particularly impressive. They defeated Juventus 3-0 away from home, having previously beaten Parma 2-1 at their own stadium.

The visitors have also won their past six away matches in all competitions, while Sassuolo have lost three of their last four games across all tournaments.

Pinnacle888 odds

Pinnacle888 lists Sassuolo as 3.25 to win, with a draw priced at 3.55. Lazio are available at 2.2 for victory.

Recent meetings between the clubs suggest a low-scoring contest could be possible. Four of the sides’ past five encounters have produced fewer than 2.5 goals.

The recommended selection is a draw at 3.55, combined with under 2.5 goals at 2.15.
