Santiago Canizares: ‘Matvey Safonov is a good goalkeeper’ after award vote

Former Valencia and Spain goalkeeper Santiago Canizares has told Euro-Football.Ru that Matvey Safonov is a good goalkeeper after the annual prize for the best goalkeeper was awarded to Unai Simon.

The Spain international finished first in the voting, while Russia goalkeeper Safonov was fourth.

Safonov helped Paris Saint-Germain win the French championship last season and claim a second consecutive Champions League trophy. Simon, who represents Athletic Bilbao, did not win any major honours at club level but became a world champion with Spain.
