Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has been discharged from hospital after collapsing during training last week, sporting board member Max Eberl has confirmed.
Kompany was taken to hospital after becoming unwell during a session with Bayern’s second team at the club’s training ground. Medical checks found that the incident was caused by meningeal irritation.
The Belgian missed Bayern’s media commitments before their Champions League meeting with Arsenal because of a viral infection, but was well enough to take his place in the dugout for the 2-2 draw.
“Given the circumstances, he’s doing well,” Eberl told broadcaster ARD before Bayern’s German Cup match against Magdeburg, which Bayern won 6-1.
“He was discharged from the hospital today [Wednesday]. That is the biggest and best news for all of us.
“It’s a meningeal irritation that caused this incident on Friday. He will now rest and take medication and I am certain that he will very soon be back on the touchline, operating at 100 per cent.”
There is currently no confirmed date for Kompany’s return to work. Eberl said the 39-year-old would only resume his duties once he had received medical clearance.
Kompany’s assistant, Englishman Aaron Danks, has taken charge of the team in his absence. Danks was on the bench for Bayern’s 3-1 Bundesliga victory at Freiburg on Sunday.
Bayern, who lead the Bundesliga, face title rivals Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
