Salah faces criticism in England after comments on Liverpool style

Mohamed Salah has become the centre of growing controversy in England after comments about Liverpool FC’s style of play under manager Arne Slot triggered calls for the Egyptian forward to be excluded from the club’s farewell ceremony.

Salah is expected to bring an end to his nine-year spell at Anfield at the conclusion of the current season, closing a period widely regarded as one of the most successful eras of his career.

During his time with Liverpool, the Egyptian helped the club return to major domestic and continental success, establishing himself as one of the most influential players in the club’s modern history.

However, attention has shifted away from his achievements on the pitch following remarks he made on social media concerning Liverpool’s tactical identity.

Salah referred to the absence of the “loud football” style associated with former manager Jürgen Klopp, comments that some observers interpreted as indirect criticism of Slot’s methods.

The timing of the remarks, made during the closing stage of the campaign, has fuelled debate among former players, coaches and supporters in England.

Critics argued that such comments risk creating tension within the dressing room at a crucial moment of the season.

Among the strongest reactions came from former England manager Sam Allardyce, who publicly called for Liverpool to take firm action against Salah.

Speaking to the British newspaper The Mirror, Allardyce said he would have prevented the Egyptian from taking part in Liverpool’s farewell celebrations or even appearing in the club’s final Premier League match if he had been in charge.

The former coach criticised what he viewed as public disrespect towards the club and management.

“If I were the owner of Liverpool, I would have excluded him. Who does he think he is? He is not bigger than this prestigious club,” Allardyce said.

He also argued that disagreements between players and coaches should remain private rather than becoming public discussion points during the season.

According to Allardyce, Salah should have delayed any criticism until after his departure from the club in order to protect team stability.

“Salah needs to take stock of himself and realize how poorly he has performed this year. Players and coaches may have differing opinions, but they should never publicly declare it.”

The former England manager went further by comparing the situation to the era of legendary Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

“If Salah had done that during Sir Alex Ferguson’s era, he would never have played football again. His career would have been over.”

Despite the criticism, Salah remains one of the most celebrated players in Liverpool’s recent history.

Since arriving at Anfield nine years ago, the Egyptian forward has become a key figure in the club’s revival, earning widespread admiration for his goals, consistency and contribution to Liverpool’s return to winning major honours.

The controversy has nevertheless overshadowed preparations for what many supporters expected to be an emotional farewell to one of the club’s modern icons.

Debate now continues across English football over whether Salah’s remarks represented honest criticism from a senior player or crossed a line by publicly questioning the tactical direction of the team under Slot.

As Liverpool prepare to conclude the season, attention is likely to remain fixed on Salah and the atmosphere surrounding his anticipated final appearance at Anfield.
