SABC will broadcast Kaizer Chiefs’ Toyota Cup meeting with Zimbabwean champions Scottland FC live on SABC 1, with the pre-season showpiece at Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace set to double as Amakhosi’s final warm-up before the new Betway Premiership campaign.
Kaizer Chiefs take on Scottland FC in the third edition of the Toyota Cup on Sunday, 26 July, with kick-off at 15:00 in Rustenburg. The public broadcaster has confirmed the match will be screened live on SABC 1 for supporters unable to attend.
The fixture is Kaizer Chiefs’ last scheduled outing before they open their Betway Premiership season under new head coach Fernando Da Cruz. Amakhosi begin the league campaign against top-flight newcomers Kruger United on Saturday, 1 August, at Mbombela Stadium, where kick-off is set for 20:15.
Chiefs still seeking first Toyota Cup title
Despite appearing in both previous editions, Kaizer Chiefs are yet to win the Toyota Cup.
The inaugural tournament was staged in 2024 at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein, where Young Africans SC comprehensively defeated Amakhosi 4-0 to claim the trophy.
The second edition, held at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban in 2025, brought more disappointment for Kaizer Chiefs. They were held to a 0-0 draw by Asante Kotoko over 90 minutes and then went down 3-2 in the penalty shootout.
Sunday’s encounter therefore offers Amakhosi another chance to secure a first Toyota Cup success, while also providing valuable match practice ahead of the domestic season.
New signings, new kits and legends curtain-raiser
The Toyota Cup programme will extend beyond the main match in Rustenburg.
Kaizer Chiefs will use the occasion to unveil their new signings to supporters and to launch the club’s new home and away kits for the coming campaign.
Fans arriving early will also be able to watch a curtain-raiser between the Kaizer Chiefs Legends and the Jozi Masters. That game is scheduled to kick off at 12:00, building the atmosphere ahead of the marquee clash against Scottland FC.
Scottland FC bring title-winning form and familiar faces
Scottland FC travel to South Africa as the reigning Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League champions, having won the title only one season after securing promotion to the top flight.
The visitors’ squad includes two players with strong links to Kaizer Chiefs in Khama Billiat and Knowledge Musona, both of whom previously made a major impact at the Soweto club. The experienced pair are set for an emotional return as they line up against their former employers.
For Scottland FC, the match forms an important part of their build-up to the CAF Champions League, which they will enter as champions of Zimbabwe. For Kaizer Chiefs, it represents the final opportunity to fine-tune under Fernando Da Cruz before their Betway Premiership campaign begins.
Both sides will therefore view the contest at Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace as more than just a friendly, with competitive minutes, tactical preparation and, for Amakhosi, a first Toyota Cup title all on the line.
