Cristiano Ronaldo’s availability for Al Nassr’s Roshn Saudi League meeting with Al Riyadh will be decided after a series of medical and fitness assessments on Thursday.
Al Nassr travel to face Al Riyadh at Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium in the Saudi capital on Friday, in the second round of the league season.
Ronaldo, who captains the Riyadh-based club, did not take part in Al Nassr’s full team training on Wednesday, according to Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadiyah. Instead, the Portugal forward continued with his rehabilitation programme and completed an individual fitness session.
The report said Ronaldo suffered an injury to his pelvic muscle during training earlier this week. However, he did not experience a recurrence of the problem during Wednesday’s fitness work.
His condition will be assessed again during Al Nassr’s final training session before the match. The club’s medical staff will carry out both medical and physical tests before determining whether Ronaldo can be included against Al Riyadh.
The decision represents a late opportunity for Ronaldo to make his first appearance of the new campaign. He returned to Al Nassr training during the current week after spending a month away from the club.
His absence followed the conclusion of his involvement with Portugal at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico. As a result, Ronaldo missed Al Nassr’s opening two competitive fixtures of the season.
Al Nassr began their Roshn Saudi League campaign with a 3-0 victory over Al Fateh in the first round. Ronaldo was also unavailable for the club’s 4-1 win against Al-Diriyah in the last 32 of the King’s Cup.
Those results have given Al Nassr a positive start without their captain, but his possible return remains dependent on Thursday’s checks. The club will therefore have to wait until after the final training session before confirming whether Ronaldo is fit enough to face Al Riyadh.
Al Nassr’s match against Al Riyadh is scheduled to take place on Friday at Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium. Ronaldo’s progress will be monitored by the medical team as the club assesses the risk of involving him after his recent pelvic muscle problem and extended period away from team training.
For now, the Portuguese forward remains a doubt rather than a confirmed absentee. His participation will be determined by the results of the medical and fitness evaluations held before the fixture.
