Senegal international Krépin Diatta has emerged as a potential target for AS Roma as the Italian club explores the free-agent market for attacking reinforcements.
Roma are continuing their efforts to strengthen the squad after unsuccessful attempts to sign Jamie Leweling from Stuttgart and Luiz Henrique from Zenit Saint Petersburg.
With those options proving difficult to complete, sporting director D’Amico is understood to be considering players who are currently without clubs, in consultation with manager Gian Piero Gasperini.
Diatta is one of the profiles reportedly being examined by the Italian side, according to information reported by Goal.
The 27-year-old has been without a club since 30 June, when his contract with French side AS Monaco expired. The Senegalese winger and Monaco were unable to reach an agreement over a new deal.
His availability has attracted interest from several clubs across Europe, making Roma the latest side to reportedly consider a move for the former Club Bruges player.
Diatta joined Monaco in January 2021 after leaving Club Bruges and went on to make 143 appearances for the French club.
During his time in Monaco, he scored eight goals and provided seven assists.
Roma are not alone in monitoring his situation.
French club Olympique de Marseille and English Premier League side Crystal Palace are also reportedly interested in securing the services of the Senegal international.
There is also continued interest from Turkey, where Galatasaray and Trabzonspor are understood to be considering Diatta as an option.
Diatta is now assessing his choices with his representatives as he considers the next stage of his career.
A move to Roma would offer the Senegalese international an opportunity to continue his career in Serie A and potentially provide Gasperini with another option in the attacking areas.
The Italian club’s interest comes after its pursuit of Leweling and Luiz Henrique failed to produce an agreement, prompting Roma to turn their attention towards players available without a transfer fee.
Diatta’s status as a free agent makes him an appealing option for clubs seeking to add experience without having to negotiate a transfer fee with another team.
The Senegalese winger has already gained experience in several European leagues, having played for Club Bruges before his move to Monaco.
His five-year spell with Monaco also means he has considerable experience of French football, while his international career with Senegal has further established him on the European transfer market.
For now, Diatta’s next destination remains undecided, with several clubs reportedly competing for his signature.
Roma’s interest could give the player another possible route, particularly as the Italian club looks to satisfy Gasperini’s demands for further attacking options.
Marseille and Crystal Palace remain among the other clubs linked with the winger, while the Turkish route involving Galatasaray and Trabzonspor also remains open.
The Bayer Leverkusen option, meanwhile, appears to have lost momentum after the German club signed Guela Doué from Strasbourg.
Diatta therefore has several possibilities to consider as he searches for a new club following his departure from Monaco.
