Reims close in on Senegal striker Sambou Soumano after successful medical

Senegalese striker Sambou Soumano is on the verge of joining Reims after successfully completing his medical examination, with the Ligue 1 club expected to confirm his signing in the coming days.

According to Foot Mercato, the 25-year-old has already travelled to the Reims region to complete the final formalities and is set to sign a four-year contract after leaving FC Lorient as a free agent.

The move will allow Soumano to remain in Ligue 1 following the expiration of his contract with Lorient, where he featured regularly during the 2025/26 season.

Unless there is an unexpected setback, Reims are expected to officially announce the Senegal international as one of their latest signings ahead of the new campaign.

Soumano scored four goals and provided two assists in 31 Ligue 1 appearances last season, performances that convinced Reims to strengthen their attacking options with the Dakar-born forward.

He began his football journey at Youth Elite Foot in Dakar before moving to France, where he progressed through spells with Châteaubriant and Pau before earning a move to Lorient.

During his time at Lorient, Soumano also gained experience on loan at Belgian side Eupen and French clubs Rodez and Quevilly-Rouen, helping him develop across different competitions before establishing himself in Lorient’s first team.

The move to Reims marks another significant step in his career. At 25, the striker is set to join the seventh club of his professional journey while remaining in France’s top flight.

For Reims, Soumano’s arrival is expected to add depth and versatility to the attack ahead of the new Ligue 1 season.

Having already passed his medical, only the final contractual formalities remain before the deal is completed. If everything proceeds as planned, Soumano will soon be unveiled as a Reims player on a four-year contract.
