Real Madrid will present new signing Denzel Dumfries next Tuesday, 28 July, at the club’s Valdebebas training complex rather than at the Santiago Bernabeu, according to journalist Ben Fernandez Santos, who specialises in reporting on the Spanish club.
The Netherlands international right-back has joined the Champions League holders from Inter Milan this summer after Real Madrid activated a €20m release clause in his contract with the Italian side.
Dumfries, 30, has signed a deal at the Bernabeu that runs until 30 June 2030, giving him a long-term platform at the club who finished as runners-up in La Liga last season.
The decision to stage the unveiling at Valdebebas instead of the Bernabeu marks a change from some of Real Madrid’s recent high-profile presentations, which have traditionally taken place at the club’s stadium.
Competition for starting role
Dumfries is expected to compete directly with England international Trent Alexander-Arnold, the former Liverpool defender, for a place in Real Madrid’s starting XI.
The Dutchman arrives as an established senior international and with extensive experience at the highest level in European football, while Alexander-Arnold comes off a long spell as a key figure at Anfield before making his own move to the Spanish capital.
Dumfries’ time at Inter
Dumfries joined Inter Milan in the summer of 2021 from PSV Eindhoven and went on to become a mainstay on the right flank for the Nerazzurri.
During his three seasons in Italy, he made more than 200 appearances in all competitions, contributing at both ends of the pitch and helping Inter secure the Serie A title.
He also played a part in Inter’s run to the UEFA Champions League final in the 2024-25 season, where they faced Paris Saint-Germain, before completing his switch to Real Madrid on a four-year contract.
The move to Madrid caps a steady rise for Dumfries, who progressed through Dutch football to establish himself in Serie A and on the international stage, and now steps into a squad that will demand immediate impact and high performance levels in both domestic and European competition.
