Real Madrid have completed the signing of Ivorian winger Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig, with the player agreeing a long-term contract running until the summer of 2033.
The Spanish club announced the deal on Thursday evening in a statement published on their official website, confirming that an agreement had been reached with RB Leipzig for the transfer of the 19-year-old.
The move is understood to be worth more than 120m euros, according to Spanish newspaper Sport, following negotiations which lasted longer than expected.
The fixed value of the transfer is 125m euros. Real Madrid could pay a further 10m euros in bonuses considered relatively easy to achieve, while an additional 5m euros is linked to more difficult conditions. Leganes will also receive 5% of the fixed transfer fee.
The formal announcement came after the negotiations were prolonged by a dispute involving Diomande’s current and former agents. That disagreement delayed the completion of a deal which had been expected to be concluded sooner.
Despite his potential and the significant fee involved, Diomande has limited experience at senior club level. He has played 46 official matches in the top divisions of club football, including 10 appearances for Leganes and 36 for RB Leipzig.
Of his matches for the German club, 33 came in the Bundesliga and three in the DFB-Pokal. His senior record also includes 13 international appearances for Cote d’Ivoire, taking his total number of senior matches to 59.
Real Madrid believe that record has provided enough evidence of the qualities they were seeking. The club view Diomande as one of the most promising attacking players currently available in the transfer market.
The Ivorian is capable of operating on either flank, giving manager Jose Mourinho greater flexibility when shaping his forward line. His ability to play on both the right and left is expected to offer Real Madrid more ways to build an attack that is aggressive, explosive and difficult for opponents to predict.
Diomande’s versatility was a key factor in Real Madrid’s decision to pursue him, with the club seeing his development potential as an important part of the agreement. His contract, which extends through the 2032-33 season, represents a long-term commitment from the Madrid side.
The transfer brings an end to Diomande’s spell with RB Leipzig and marks the next stage of a senior career that has so far included football in Spain, Germany and at international level with Cote d’Ivoire.
