Real Madrid are growing increasingly confident of completing the signing of RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, despite strong interest from Manchester City and Liverpool and a lack of agreement so far over a fee thought to be around €100m.
Manchester City have informed RB Leipzig verbally that they are prepared to put forward a €100m offer for the Ivory Coast international, although no formal bid has yet been submitted. Talks between the clubs and intermediaries have already taken place, according to reporter Philipp Hinze.
Liverpool and Real Madrid, meanwhile, have both already tabled proposals close to the €100m mark. Those offers were turned down by Leipzig, who are holding out for more in what has become one of the most closely watched transfer sagas of the summer.
Paris Saint-Germain have also been monitoring the situation but are yet to make a move. At this stage, the French club are not expected to match the level of the bids coming from Madrid.
Real Madrid push to avoid late twist
Despite the competition from other elite clubs, Real Madrid believe momentum is swinging in their favour. According to journalist Santi Aouna, the Spanish club’s hierarchy are optimistic they can finalise an agreement over the weekend in order to prevent any late twist in the race for the 19-year-old.
If the remaining points of negotiation are resolved as anticipated, Diomande is expected to be officially unveiled as a Real Madrid player next week.
The potential transfer would add another highly rated young attacker to Real Madrid’s squad, with the club determined to move quickly to secure one of Europe’s most sought-after wide players before the window develops further.
