Marcus Rashford has confirmed he has left Barcelona at the end of his loan from Manchester United, posting an emotional farewell message after the Catalan club chose not to trigger their option to buy the England forward.
The 26-year-old returned to Old Trafford following the conclusion of his temporary spell, with his long-term future now expected to be decided during the current summer transfer window.
In a statement shared across his social media accounts, Rashford expressed his gratitude to everyone at Barcelona and described his time at the club as one of the standout chapters of his career.
“I am extremely grateful to everyone at the club for making my time here such a positive and unforgettable experience,” Rashford wrote. “I enjoyed every moment and will carry so many special memories with me.”
He added: “I wish the club and all of its fans the very best of luck and success for next season. Visca Barca!”
Rashford accompanied the message with two images: one showing a Barcelona shirt bearing his name and number, and another taken during a match in which he was playing for the Catalan side.
Productive loan spell
During his loan spell, Rashford made 49 appearances for Barcelona in all competitions, scoring 14 goals and providing 14 assists. His contributions gave the team a consistent attacking threat and ensured he left a clear offensive imprint on the side.
Despite those numbers, Barcelona’s hierarchy ultimately opted not to activate the purchase clause in his loan agreement with Manchester United, bringing the arrangement to a close at the end of the season.
Strong reaction from team-mates
Rashford’s farewell post drew significant reaction from former team-mates at Barcelona, with several players publicly responding to his message.
Among those to comment were Raphinha, Gavi and Bernal, who all took the opportunity to say goodbye to the England international.
In his reply, Bernal wrote: “I wish you all the best, my brother. It was a pleasure to share the dressing room with a player like you.”
Future to be decided
Rashford’s departure formally closes his brief but influential spell at Barcelona, and he is now back with Manchester United as discussions continue over his next move.
With the transfer window under way, the forward’s situation is expected to be one of the storylines of the summer, as United and Rashford weigh up the options for the coming season following his year in Spain.
