Manchester United are under growing pressure to resolve Marcus Rashford’s future, with Tottenham Hotspur preparing a £40m bid while the club remain reluctant to sell the England international to a Premier League rival.
The 28-year-old forward, who is coming off a successful loan spell at Barcelona, is seen by Spurs as a key target to strengthen their attack under new head coach Roberto De Zerbi.
United, however, are keen to move Rashford on primarily to ease their wage bill – but fear the prospect of him rediscovering his best form against them if he stays in England.
Tottenham push for Rashford amid United resistance
Tottenham are targeting Rashford with an offer understood to be in the region of £40m, viewing his versatility and experience as an ideal fit for De Zerbi’s high-intensity attacking approach.
Spurs, who finished 17th last season and are attempting a major rebuild, have already brought in Sandro Tonali, Matheus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke. The club now want a proven Premier League forward capable of operating both wide and through the middle, a profile Rashford fits perfectly.
Rashford spent last season on loan at Barcelona, scoring 14 goals and providing 10 assists in all competitions. Despite those strong numbers, the Catalan club have not turned the temporary deal into a permanent transfer.
United’s hierarchy are open to a sale to reduce their salary commitments, but they are reported to be opposed to sanctioning a move to a domestic rival such as Tottenham.
Arsenal and Chelsea also interested – but face same barrier
Arsenal and Chelsea have also been cited among the clubs monitoring Rashford’s situation, according to the publication CaughtOffside.
However, the same issue that applies to Spurs applies to them: Manchester United are deeply wary of strengthening a direct competitor in the Premier League.
The club’s reluctance is said to be rooted in the fear that Rashford, if he regains his peak form, could significantly damage United’s prospects in head-to-head encounters and in the wider race for European places.

While English clubs circle, Rashford’s own preference currently leans towards a move outside the Premier League.
Barcelona are understood to be keeping an eye on his evolving situation, even after passing up the chance to sign him permanently at the end of his loan. Interest has also emerged from Turkey, though those proposals have not appealed to the player.
With external options limited for the moment, United may ultimately have to soften their stance over a domestic sale if no satisfactory overseas bids materialise, the same report suggests.
