Patrick Dorgu set to leave Denmark camp after Manchester United injury concern

Manchester United wing-back Patrick Dorgu is expected to withdraw from the Denmark squad and return to his club for further examination after suffering a thigh injury.

Dorgu started Denmark’s Nations League match against Wales on Sunday evening but lasted only 30 minutes before being substituted.

The 20-year-old was seen holding his left thigh and receiving treatment on the pitch before Denmark’s coach replaced him. The incident raised immediate concerns over his fitness, with Danish media outlet TV2 reporting that Dorgu will return to Manchester United and miss Denmark’s remaining two matches during the international break.

Denmark manager Brian Riemer must now find a replacement for the Manchester United player. The injury is another setback for Manchester United during a lengthy international break, with the club still having some time to wait before returning to Premier League action.

“I have never experienced a situation like this. I have to say, never. Today another player got injured and a very good one too,” said Riemer.

“I counted that even before today, seven or eight regular players from the 23-man squad were not with us. They either went home or didn’t come at all.

“And now Dorgu got injured today. Honestly, it’s really frustrating.”

Riemer added that Denmark would need to replace a player capable of operating in several positions.

“I have to call up another winger. It’s not hard to find a player who can play as a winger, full-back, or other positions, but it’s even harder to find someone who can cover multiple positions.”
