Paris Saint-Germain face late complication in planned Zion Suzuki move

The proposed transfer of Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki to Paris Saint-Germain has encountered a late problem and is now at risk of falling through.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Paris Saint-Germain had reached an agreement on Tuesday to sign the Japan international. The French club had progressed to the point of arranging a private aircraft to take Suzuki from Italy for his medical examination.

Parma had given the player permission to make the journey. However, an issue involving Suzuki emerged at the last moment, leaving the transfer in doubt despite the apparent progress between the two clubs.

The nature of the problem has not been specified. It is understood to have come from the player’s side rather than from Parma or Paris Saint-Germain, with the proposed move now facing uncertainty before it can be completed.

The deal had been expected to see Paris Saint-Germain pay Parma approximately 35m euros for Suzuki. That reported fee had formed the basis of the agreement between the clubs, but the transfer remains incomplete while the latest complication is addressed.

Suzuki’s planned move had appeared to be moving towards its final stages. Paris Saint-Germain’s decision to send a private plane and Parma’s approval for the goalkeeper to travel indicated that a medical assessment was due to take place. Instead, the late issue has interrupted the process and placed the agreement under threat.

There has been no confirmation that the transfer has been cancelled, but the deal can no longer be regarded as straightforward. Its completion will depend on whether the difficulty on Suzuki’s side can be resolved.

The Japanese goalkeeper is contracted to Parma, who had agreed in principle to his departure for a fee of about 35m euros. Paris Saint-Germain had also reached an agreement with Suzuki’s current club before the latest development created uncertainty around the move.

Romano’s report is the latest indication that negotiations have not yet reached a final conclusion. Until the issue is settled, Suzuki’s proposed switch from Parma to Paris Saint-Germain remains in jeopardy.
