Raja Casablanca target former player Mohamed Madih for sporting director role

Raja Casablanca are reportedly close to appointing former player Mohamed Madih as their new sporting director as the Moroccan club prepares further changes following the departure of coach Paco Jemez.

The club are seeking a successor to Rogerio Matias, with Madih emerging as the leading candidate because of his previous association with Raja and his experience in football both in Morocco and abroad.

According to Moroccan publication Le Sport 360, Raja’s management are considering bringing Madih back into the club as part of efforts to reorganise their sporting structure and improve the team’s direction.

The proposed appointment comes after Raja announced Jemez’s departure following their defeat by Renaissance Berkane in the Moroccan league. The result prompted the club’s officials to take action, with changes to the technical management beginning with the Spanish coach’s exit.

Raja’s leadership are now looking to make further adjustments behind the scenes, with the sporting director’s position among the areas under consideration. Madih is understood to be an attractive option because of his familiarity with the club’s culture, history and working environment.

His experience in coaching and sports administration is also believed to have strengthened his position as the club considers how best to rebuild its sporting project. Raja are seeking an experienced figure who can help address their current difficulties while understanding the expectations and demands associated with the club.

Madih’s connection with Raja stretches back to his playing career. He was part of the squad that won the African Champions League in 1989, one of the most significant achievements in the club’s history.

He also made a notable contribution in attack, finishing the 1991-92 season as Raja’s leading goalscorer. His previous achievements with the club are among the reasons his name has gained attention during the search for a new sporting director.

The possible appointment is part of a wider period of transition at Raja, who are looking to restore stability following recent developments involving the coaching staff.

The Moroccan side also have important continental commitments ahead. They are set to face Al Ahly in the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup, where both clubs have been drawn in Group A alongside Angola’s Primeiro de Agosto and Togo’s ASKO Kara.

Raja’s immediate attention, however, will turn to their Moroccan league fixture against Royal Army on Wednesday, 4 November 2026, as the club continues to navigate a period of change.
