Orlando Pirates and Sekhukhune United will meet three times in the space of seven days, with the unusual run of fixtures featuring both legs of an MTN8 semi-final and a Betway Premiership match.
The first encounter is scheduled for 22 August 2026, when defending champions Orlando Pirates travel to Peter Mokaba Stadium for the opening leg of the MTN8 semi-final.
The clubs will then meet again just three days later, on 25 August, when Orlando Pirates host Sekhukhune United at Orlando Stadium in the league.
Their sequence of fixtures will conclude on 29 August with the second leg of the MTN8 semi-final, meaning the two teams will face each other in two competitions during a single, demanding week.
The schedule will leave both squads with limited time to recover, while coaches will have to manage fatigue, injuries, rotation and tactical changes. Each meeting is also likely to offer the opposition fresh information ahead of the next game.
For supporters, however, the back-to-back nature of the fixtures promises an intriguing period of football. By the end of August, Orlando Pirates and Sekhukhune United could be extremely familiar with one another.
The run comes as Orlando Pirates make a strong start to the 2026/27 campaign. The Buccaneers are top of the Betway Premiership after collecting seven points from their opening three matches.
They began the league season with a 2-0 win against Milford FC, drew 1-1 with AmaZulu FC and then recorded a 3-0 victory over Chippa United FC.
Their MTN8 title defence has also progressed successfully, although Orlando Pirates needed extra time to beat Durban City FC 2-1 in the quarter-finals and secure their place in the last four.
Sekhukhune United have taken six points from their first three league games under coach Cedric Kaze.
Babina Noko opened their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Durban City FC but were beaten 2-0 by Kaizer Chiefs FC in their second match. They responded by defeating Polokwane City FC 2-0.
Their route to the MTN8 semi-finals was particularly eventful. Sekhukhune United edged past AmaZulu FC in a dramatic 4-3 extra-time quarter-final victory.
That result set up the semi-final against Orlando Pirates, with the first leg at Peter Mokaba Stadium followed by the league fixture at Orlando Stadium and then the return leg seven days after the opening match.
The two clubs will therefore have little opportunity to put the other side out of their thoughts during a period that could have a significant impact on both their league campaign and their pursuit of the MTN8 trophy.
The schedule also follows reports that a 13th player has left Orlando Pirates, adding to the background around the defending champions as they prepare for an exceptionally testing week.
