Olise eager to meet Onuachu as striker shines in Turkey

Trabzonspor midfielder Chioma Olise has expressed strong admiration for her fellow Nigerian Paul Onuachu, praising the striker’s performances and voicing her full support for him during a standout season in Turkey.

Olise, who joined the Turkish club’s women’s side in February 2025, said she and many Nigerians take pride in Onuachu’s achievements with the men’s team. The forward has been one of the club’s key players this season, scoring 24 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions.

Speaking in an interview about her experience in Turkey, Olise highlighted Onuachu’s impact and importance, particularly as he competes for the Turkish Super Lig Golden Boot. The Nigerian striker currently has 22 league goals, placing him ahead of his closest rival, Eldor Shomurodov of Basaksehir FK, by two goals.

Despite his impressive tally, Onuachu has recently experienced a brief dip in form, failing to score in his last three matches following his return from a muscle injury. The injury had previously sidelined him for a fixture against Alanyaspor.

Olise, however, remains firmly supportive of her compatriot and is hopeful he will continue his scoring run. In comments shared during the interview, she said, “I fully support Onuachu because he is a citizen of my country. Please keep scoring goals like that; he’s my king. I fully support him with everything I have inside me.”

She also expressed a desire to meet the striker in person, adding that he serves as a source of inspiration for her. “Naturally, I wish to meet him. Not only does Onuachu inspire me, but I also hope to meet Chibuike Nwaiwu and Anthony Nwaiwu in the field of research,” she said.

Olise’s own career has been on an upward trajectory. Before her move to Trabzonspor, she played for Edo Queens and later secured a contract with the Turkish side that runs until June 2027. Her transition to European football marks a significant step in her development as a professional player.

On the international stage, Olise represented Nigeria at the 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup and went on to make her senior debut later that year in a friendly match against Algeria in October 2024.

Her comments underline the sense of national pride shared among Nigerian players competing abroad, as well as the influence established stars like Onuachu can have on emerging talents.

As the season progresses, attention will remain on Onuachu’s pursuit of the Golden Boot, with supporters like Olise hoping he can maintain his advantage and finish as the league’s top scorer.
