Ola Aina celebrates first Premier League Player of the Match award

Nottingham Forest F.C. defender Ola Aina has celebrated a personal milestone after earning his first-ever Player of the Match award in the Premier League.

The Nigerian international received the recognition following an impressive defensive performance in Forest’s goalless draw with Fulham F.C. at the City Ground on Sunday.

Aina played a key role in helping the home side keep a clean sheet, producing several decisive interventions throughout the match to prevent the visitors from finding the breakthrough.

The 29-year-old defender was heavily involved in defensive actions during the contest. He completed four tackles and won four duels, while also making 10 clearances. In addition, Aina recorded three recoveries and an interception as Forest held firm at the back.

His performance was central to Forest’s defensive stability in a match where chances were limited and both teams struggled to convert opportunities in the final third.

Aina also came close to marking the occasion with a goal. In the second half, the defender advanced forward and attempted an effort that struck the woodwork, narrowly missing what could have been a memorable finish to an already standout display.

Despite the missed opportunity, his overall contribution on the pitch was widely recognised as one of the most influential performances of the game.

After the match, Aina shared his excitement at receiving the award through social media. Posting a photograph of himself holding the prize on Snapchat, the defender captioned the image: “1st ever one.”

The recognition represents a personal achievement for the Nigerian international, who has been an important member of the Forest squad this season.

So far in the current league campaign, Aina has featured in 14 matches for Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. While primarily focused on his defensive duties, he has also contributed going forward with one assist.

His performances have helped Forest remain competitive in several closely contested matches, with the defender providing both defensive reliability and occasional attacking support from his position.

The draw against Fulham ensured Forest added another point to their league tally, with Aina’s display proving crucial in maintaining their defensive record on the day.

For the defender, the Player of the Match award marks a memorable moment in his Premier League career and highlights the impact he continues to have for Nottingham Forest during the season.
