French side OGC Nice are reportedly considering a move for Cameroon international Darlin Yongwa as they seek to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
The 25-year-old left-back has emerged as a potential target for the Ligue 1 club, with his contract at FC Lorient due to expire on June 30.
Yongwa’s contractual situation could make him an attractive option for Nice, who would be able to secure his services without paying a transfer fee should he leave Lorient at the end of his deal.
The Côte d’Azur club are looking to reinforce several areas of their squad following a challenging campaign, with the left side of defence identified as a position requiring improvement.
According to reports, Nice are seeking a player capable of providing both defensive solidity and attacking support, with Yongwa among the names being assessed by the club’s recruitment department.
The prospect of signing an experienced Ligue 1 player on a free transfer is understood to be a significant factor in Nice’s interest.
Yongwa has spent his professional career in France and has established himself as a regular presence in Lorient’s squad. His performances have not gone unnoticed, with several clubs monitoring his situation ahead of the summer transfer window.
While Nice are among the clubs showing interest, they may face competition for the defender’s signature. Reports suggest that a number of Turkish clubs are also tracking the Cameroon international and could enter the race if he becomes available.
At international level, Yongwa has earned eight caps for Cameroon, scoring once for the Indomitable Lions.
The defender has remained an important figure for Lorient this season, making 25 appearances and registering one assist.
With his current contract nearing its conclusion, Yongwa faces a significant decision regarding the next phase of his career. A move to Nice would allow him to remain in Ligue 1 while joining a club aiming to rebuild and strengthen following a difficult season.
