Not a single country in Africa is treated specially – CAF President Motsepe

CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe has rubbished talks of Morocco being handed preferential treatment in the wake of the 2025 Afcon final drama.

Morocco were declared winners of the competition on Tuesday night by the CAF Appeals Board after upholding an appeal tendered in by the Atlas Lions who suffered a 1-0 defeat in January’s final.

The decision meant Morocco claimed their second continental trophy in half a century, leading to fiery reaction by fans, who point fingers at CAF for treating the North Africans specially.

In his first speech after Morocco were handed the title, Motsepe has debunked the claims, insisting all teams in Africa are placed on an equal pedestal.

‘Not a single Country in Africa will be treated in a manner that is more preferential, advantageous or favourable than any other country on the African continent.”.

“We take what has happened in the final match in Morocco very seriously and we have already taken very important steps to make sure that those areas which have been identified as deficiencies and need for improvement, the necessary resolutions are passed.”

Senegal are expected to appeal the decision at CAS while Morocco bask in the glory of their victory.
