New Black Stars coach Queiroz sends strong message to Ghanaians

Carlos Queiroz has described his new role as head coach of the Ghana national football team as a “mission,” pledging to give everything as he begins his tenure.

In his first message following his appointment by the Ghana Football Association, the Portuguese coach struck a tone of humility and determination, emphasizing both responsibility and ambition.

“It is with a deep sense of gratitude, responsibility and humility that I embrace this new chapter,” Queiroz said.

He highlighted Ghana’s football heritage and expressed confidence in the team’s future, adding: “Ghana is a nation of talent, pride, and footballing soul… together, with unity, discipline and ambition, we will work to honour the expectations of a great football nation.”

Queiroz underlined his commitment by framing the role as more than just employment. “This is not just another job — it is a mission,” he said, promising to bring his full experience and knowledge to the role.

The 71-year-old takes charge at a crucial moment, with Ghana preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His appointment follows recent changes in the team’s technical setup after the departure of Otto Addo.

Ghana have been drawn in a challenging group alongside Panama, England and Croatia, with their opening match set for June 17 in Toronto.

Queiroz’s immediate task will be to instill structure and belief in the squad as the Black Stars aim to make an impact on the global stage.
