Napoli eye Ivory Coast defender Singo after strong season

Wilfried Singo is drawing growing attention in Europe, with SSC Napoli closely monitoring the Ivory Coast international ahead of the next transfer window.

The 25-year-old defender, who currently plays for Galatasaray, has established himself as a key figure at club level while also strengthening his importance within the Ivory Coast national team setup.

Napoli’s reported interest follows a consistent run of performances this season, where Singo has featured in 23 matches, contributing two goals and three assists.

His ability to combine defensive solidity with attacking support has made him one of the standout players in his position.

Singo’s rise is closely tied to his role with the national team.

Since making his senior debut for Ivory Coast in June 2021 in a friendly victory over Burkina Faso, he has steadily grown into a reliable option in defence.

His development has mirrored the national side’s progress in recent years.

A major highlight of his international career came when he was part of the squad that won the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

That triumph not only elevated Ivory Coast’s status on the continent but also enhanced the profile of players like Singo, who have since attracted interest from top European clubs.

Before breaking into the senior team, Singo had already represented Ivory Coast at youth level, featuring for the under-20 side during qualification matches for the 2019 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.

He also gained valuable tournament experience at the 2020 Olympic Games, where Ivory Coast reached the quarter-finals, further contributing to his development on the international stage.

At club level, his move to Galatasaray in August 2025 on a long-term contract marked another important step in his career.

Since then, he has become an integral part of the team, with his performances helping to raise his profile across Europe.

Napoli’s interest reflects a broader trend of European clubs targeting African defenders who can offer both physical presence and technical quality.

Singo, with his experience across different competitions and his international pedigree, fits that profile.

However, any potential transfer may not be straightforward as reports suggest that other European sides are also monitoring the situation, meaning Napoli could face competition if they decide to formalise their interest.

Galatasaray, meanwhile, may be reluctant to part with a player who has quickly become central to their plans, unless a significant offer is made.
