French club Nantes are preparing to impose financial sanctions on Egyptian striker Mostafa Mohamed after he failed to report for pre-season training without informing the club or providing an official explanation.
According to Ouest-France, the 28-year-old has not returned to Nantes’ La Jonelière training centre since preparations for the 2026/27 season began on 24 June, despite remaining under contract with the club until June 2027.
The report states that Mohamed was still absent as of Tuesday morning, raising concern among club officials after he neither contacted the management nor asked his representatives to explain his continued absence.
Nantes planning disciplinary action
Nantes are now expected to fine the Egyptian international in accordance with the club’s internal disciplinary regulations.
However, the French club reportedly has no intention of taking measures that could complicate a potential transfer this summer, as the hierarchy remains open to selling the striker and recovering part of the investment made when signing him.
The report adds that Mohamed’s future at Nantes has become increasingly uncertain, particularly as he is no longer viewed as a key figure in the club’s plans following their relegation to Ligue 2.
With a new sporting project taking shape, the Egyptian forward is considered one of the players who could leave during the current transfer window.
Difficult spell in France
Nantes completed the permanent signing of Mohamed from Turkish giants Galatasaray in June 2023 after activating a €6 million purchase option.
Since then, the striker has struggled to establish himself as a consistent goalscorer.
Last season, he scored four goals in 24 Ligue 1 appearances as Nantes endured a disappointing campaign that ended in relegation to the French second division.
Turkish transfer links dismissed
The report also dismissed recent speculation linking Mohamed with Turkish side Samsunspor.
According to Ouest-France, Nantes have not received any official offer from the Super Lig club, despite reports suggesting a move was close.
With disciplinary action looming and uncertainty surrounding his future, the coming weeks are expected to prove decisive as Mohamed and Nantes seek a resolution before the close of the summer transfer window.
