Bayern Munich legend Muller has congratulated Harry Kane on winning the Ballon d’Or, describing the England striker as a “brilliant player” and saying the award was fully deserved.
Muller, who now plays for MLS club Vancouver Whitecaps, praised Kane in his monthly newsletter after the Bayern Munich forward claimed football’s highest individual honour.
“Well deserved – Kane wins the Ballon d’Or,” Muller wrote.
The former Bayern player highlighted Kane’s record of 73 goals in 65 official matches, saying the achievement reflected both the striker’s individual contribution and the team’s success.
“I’m really happy for him. 73 goals in 65 official matches. This award is the highest recognition of both his individual performance and Bayern Munich’s outstanding team performance,” Muller said.
“I think everyone is excited to see Harry receive it.”
Muller said Kane’s influence went beyond his statistics, pointing to his technical ability and willingness to contribute defensively despite being Bayern’s leading striker.
“Harry doesn’t just have impressive stats, he is also a brilliant player. His shooting, ball control and tackling are all excellent,” he added.
“Even though he is the team’s best striker, he never shies away from hard work. Other players might think, ‘Why should I run back into my own box to make a tackle and clear the ball?’ But Harry does it without hesitation.”
Muller also praised Kane’s passing range, saying the striker regularly creates opportunities from positions where others would not be able to do so.
“He always plays passes from unexpected positions. Other strikers can’t do that, because no other striker is as good as him,” Muller wrote.
The Bayern Munich legend also described Kane as a role model away from his goalscoring, praising his leadership and character.
“Both as a leader and as a person, he is a role model and an outstanding ambassador for football,” Muller said.
“Well done, mate.”
