The Royal Moroccan Football Federation has issued an official statement congratulating AS FAR after the club secured a place in the final of the CAF Champions League.
AS FAR, also known as the Royal Army, progressed to the final following a closely contested semi-final tie against fellow Moroccan side Renaissance Berkane. The Rabat-based club won the first leg 2-0 before suffering a 1-0 defeat in the return leg, doing enough to advance on aggregate.
In a statement published on its official website, the federation praised the achievement and acknowledged the significance of the club’s progression to the final.
“Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Moroccan Football Federation, on his own behalf and on behalf of the members of the Executive Committee, congratulates the Royal Army Club on its qualification for the African Champions League final.”
Aggregate Advantage Proves Decisive
The federation highlighted that AS FAR’s strong first-leg performance laid the foundation for their qualification. The opening match, played at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex, saw the team secure a two-goal advantage that ultimately proved decisive.
The statement continued, “The Royal Army had won the first leg last week by two goals to nil, in the match that was held at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat, thus securing its qualification for the final match with a superior aggregate score.”
Despite losing the second leg, AS FAR maintained their aggregate lead to book a place in the final, demonstrating resilience over the two matches.
Strong Run Through the Tournament
AS FAR’s journey to the final has included notable performances against strong opposition. In the quarter-finals, they eliminated defending champions Pyramids FC in a competitive two-legged encounter.
The Moroccan side held Pyramids to a 1-1 draw in the first leg played at home before travelling to Egypt, where they secured a 2-1 victory in the return fixture. That result confirmed their status as serious contenders in the tournament and set up the all-Moroccan semi-final clash with Renaissance Berkane.
National Pride and Recognition
The federation’s message reflects the broader sense of national pride surrounding AS FAR’s achievement. Reaching the final of Africa’s premier club competition represents a major milestone for the club and Moroccan football as a whole.
Fouzi Lekjaa’s statement, delivered on behalf of the executive committee, underscores the importance of such success at continental level, particularly as Moroccan clubs continue to assert their presence in African competitions.
Focus Turns to the Final
With qualification secured, attention will now shift to the final, where AS FAR will aim to complete their impressive campaign by lifting the trophy. Their progression through challenging rounds suggests a team capable of competing at the highest level.
The club’s ability to manage two-legged ties, as demonstrated in both the quarter-finals and semi-finals, could prove crucial as they prepare for the decisive match.
A Landmark Moment for AS FAR
AS FAR’s qualification for the CAF Champions League final marks a defining chapter in the club’s history. Backed by strong performances and recognised at the highest level by the national federation, they now stand on the brink of continental success.
As anticipation builds, the Royal Army will carry both ambition and expectation into the final, representing not only themselves but Moroccan football on the African stage.
