Tunisia-France midfielder Mohamed Smaali has joined ES Zarzis from Stade Tunisien, completing a move within Tunisia’s Ligue 1. The 22-year-old defensive midfielder has signed a contract with his new club running until 30 June 2028.
Smaali moves to ES Zarzis after two seasons with Stade Tunisien, whom he joined from Ajaccio’s under-19 side in October 2023. That switch was completed as a free transfer, but no fee has been given for his latest move.
The right-footed midfielder has made 35 Ligue 1 appearances in his career, scoring once and providing four assists. He has also played in the CAF Confederation Cup, the Tunisian Cup and the Tunisian Super Cup, giving him experience across domestic and continental competition.
Smaali’s record includes one goal in four CAF Confederation Cup appearances, while he has contributed one assist in four Tunisian Cup matches. His appearances in the Tunisian Super Cup and Coupe Gambardella add to a playing history that has included both senior and youth-level football.
The move keeps Smaali in Ligue 1 as he continues his career in Tunisia. Stade Tunisien and ES Zarzis are both part of the division, meaning the midfielder remains in familiar domestic surroundings while changing clubs.
Born on 28 April 2004, Smaali has represented both Tunisia and France as nationalities. His early football was developed in France, where he played for Paris FC’s youth team before moving to Montfermeil’s under-17 side in 2020. He then joined Ajaccio’s under-19 squad in 2021.
Smaali later left Ajaccio for Stade Tunisien in 2023, beginning his senior-club spell in Tunisia. His career has since included Ligue 1 football and appearances in the country’s major cup competitions.
He joins ES Zarzis with a listed market value of €250,000 and a contract that runs through June 2028. The transfer was completed on 3 August 2026.
