Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan says Mohamed Salah has not agreed to join the Turkish club, ending speculation that the former Liverpool forward is close to moving there during the current summer transfer window.
Salah’s future has been the subject of continued debate since his name became linked with several clubs, particularly in the Turkish Super Lig. Reports had suggested that the Egypt captain was nearing a move to Trabzonspor, prompting Dogan to clarify the club’s position.
“As I said previously, there is currently no agreement with Salah. I never said that negotiations were still ongoing. Until this moment, there is no such agreement,” Dogan said in comments reported by Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat.
Salah recently became a free agent after reaching an agreement with Liverpool to end his contract one year before its scheduled expiry. However, the 33-year-old has not yet agreed terms with a new club since leaving Anfield, ensuring that uncertainty over his next destination continues.
Dogan’s comments came only a few days after Besiktas football director Onder Ozen revealed that the club had temporarily halted its efforts to sign the Egypt captain. Those talks had reached an impasse because of the financial demands involved.
Ozen said at a news conference that Besiktas had held several rounds of discussions with Salah, who previously spent many years at Liverpool, but that negotiations became increasingly difficult when the financial details of the proposed deal were discussed.
The Besiktas official also confirmed that the club would not improve its current offer. At the same time, he said Salah’s representatives were in talks with other clubs interested in signing the player.
Reports linking Salah with Trabzonspor had also led to comments from Dervis Koz, a member of the club’s board and its treasurer. Koz stressed that Dogan was the only person authorised to handle the club’s transfer business.
“Ertugrul Dogan is the only person with authority over all transfer matters at the club. His statements on this issue are clear, and if you refer back to the president’s comments, you will find the answer you are looking for,” Koz told Reuters.
Salah is still considering the options available to him before deciding on his next club. The Egypt captain chose to delay his final decision until after Egypt’s participation in the 2026 World Cup.
Egypt reached the last 16 of that tournament under Salah’s leadership. He will now begin weighing the offers put before him as he considers the next stage of his career.
For now, Trabzonspor have publicly rejected the suggestion that an agreement is in place, while Besiktas have paused their own pursuit. Salah therefore remains without a confirmed destination, with his representatives continuing discussions with interested clubs.
