Marseille eye Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaume Restes as uncertainty surrounds Geronimo Rulli

Olympique de Marseille have identified Toulouse FC goalkeeper Guillaume Restes as a leading option to strengthen their number one position amid ongoing uncertainty over the future of Geronimo Rulli.

The Ligue 1 club are closely monitoring the 21-year-old, who has emerged as one of the most highly regarded profiles within Marseille’s recruitment department, according to Foot Mercato.

Club officials are evaluating potential scenarios in goal, with Rulli’s situation yet to be clarified, and Restes is viewed as a priority target should Marseille move for a new first-choice goalkeeper during the current transfer window.

Highly rated young goalkeeper

Restes, a Toulouse academy product, has impressed with his performances in Ligue 1 and is considered to have significant potential. His age, development trajectory and top-flight experience have all contributed to his high standing among Marseille’s decision-makers.

The interest from Marseille remains at the exploratory stage, with the club currently gathering information on the player’s situation rather than making a formal move. However, that stance could shift quickly if there are departures or changes within the goalkeeping department at the Stade Velodrome.

Aston Villa also tracking Restes

Any deal for Restes is expected to be complicated, not least because Marseille are not alone in their interest.

In the Premier League, Aston Villa are also keeping a close eye on the Toulouse goalkeeper. Villa could step up their pursuit if Emiliano Martinez were to leave the club, with Juventus mentioned as a possible destination for the Argentina international.

This potential chain of moves adds another layer of uncertainty to Restes’ future, with both Marseille and Aston Villa assessing how developments in their own squads – and elsewhere in Europe – might shape their next steps.

Long contract and rising value

Restes is under contract with Toulouse until June 2028, giving his current club a strong negotiating position in any talks over a transfer fee.

The France youth international, who is of Ivorian origin, is currently valued at €18m by Transfermarkt, a figure that underlines his growing reputation and the level of investment any interested club may need to commit.

With Marseille weighing up their options in goal and Aston Villa considering potential succession plans for Martinez, Restes’ situation is expected to be one of the transfer stories to watch in the coming weeks.
