Manchester City accused of breaching Premier League media regulations after Liverpool win

Manchester City have been accused of committing another rule breach after their 3-0 victory away to Liverpool in the sixth round of the Premier League on 11 October.

The result gave the visitors a convincing win at Anfield, but the club later attracted attention for refusing a post-match radio interview request involving manager Enzo Maresca.

According to talkSPORT, representatives from the broadcaster attempted to speak to Maresca after the match, but Manchester City declined the request. No explanation was given for the refusal.

The broadcaster said the decision amounted to a direct violation of Premier League regulations. Under the rules, any radio broadcaster licensed to cover Premier League matches is entitled to interview at least one player from each team, as well as both managers.

Maresca did later speak to Sky Sports and other media outlets during a post-match news conference.

The incident comes after Manchester City were previously found guilty of financial irregularities. The club was accused of overstating its income by €1bn.

Manchester City’s latest alleged breach therefore concerns its obligations to broadcasters rather than its financial reporting, with the radio interview issue arising immediately after the victory over Liverpool.
