Malick Fofana reportedly offered to Arsenal as Lyon winger seeks move

Lyon winger Malick Fofana has reportedly been offered to Arsenal as the Belgian considers a move away from the French club before the transfer window closes.

According to reports from Foot Mercato, Fofana’s representatives have contacted several European clubs to explore a potential move for the 21-year-old.

Arsenal are among the clubs understood to have been approached, although there is currently no indication that the Premier League side have opened concrete negotiations with Lyon.

Fofana is reportedly looking for a move to a more ambitious club after establishing himself as an increasingly important player at Lyon.

Fofana attracting Premier League interest

Fofana joined Lyon from Belgian club Gent in January 2024 and is under contract with the French side until 2028.

The winger has gradually increased his role since moving to France, with his pace and direct attacking style attracting interest from clubs across Europe.

Reports indicate that Fofana has already rejected an approach from Hull City, while Sunderland have also been linked with the Belgian.

However, Fofana is reportedly prioritising a move to a club with greater ambitions, which has led to Arsenal being mentioned among his potential destinations.

Arsenal aware of Fofana’s availability

Transfer journalist Santi Aouna has also reported that Arsenal are among the clubs contacted by Fofana’s representatives.

The approach does not mean Arsenal have made an offer or begun formal negotiations with Lyon. Instead, the Gunners have been made aware of the winger’s availability as they assess their options before the transfer deadline.

Lyon remain in a strong position because Fofana’s contract runs until 2028, meaning any potential transfer would require an agreement with the French club.

Fofana facing an uncertain future

A move to the Premier League would represent another significant step in Fofana’s development.

The Belgian has attracted attention for his ability to operate in wide attacking positions and his willingness to take on defenders.

With the transfer window approaching its conclusion, his representatives are continuing to explore potential destinations.

For now, Arsenal are among the clubs reportedly aware of Fofana’s situation, but there is no confirmed agreement or advanced negotiation between the Gunners and Lyon.

Fofana’s next move could therefore depend on whether interest from Arsenal or another club develops into a formal approach before the window closes.
