Lyle Foster is reportedly close to joining Major League Soccer side Houston Dynamo on loan, with the Burnley striker seeking regular first-team football after a difficult season.
The 25-year-old Bafana Bafana forward is expected to leave Burnley on a deal running until next season. Houston Dynamo will have a $7m option to make the transfer permanent, according to The Athletic.
Foster completed his medical on Tuesday, and should the move be completed he will not occupy a designated player spot at the MLS club.
The proposed transfer would give Foster the opportunity to rebuild his form and playing time in the United States after his progress at Burnley stalled during the previous campaign.
He joined the English club in 2023 and played in the Premier League before Burnley were relegated last season. Foster made 99 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 12 goals and providing 12 assists.
However, he found goals difficult to come by last season, managing only a handful as Burnley dropped into the Championship. His reduced involvement also affected his international role.
Foster made only one appearance for Bafana Bafana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the team reached the last 32.
A move to Houston would see him join fellow Bafana Bafana international Mbekezeli Mbokazi in the United States. Foster will hope consistent football in MLS can help him regain his confidence and improve his prospects with the national team.
Pitso Mosimane is now in charge of Bafana Bafana, and Foster will be aiming to use his time in MLS to force his way back into the starting XI.
At 25, the striker still has time to establish himself as a regular for the national side. A change of surroundings and increased playing opportunities could provide the platform he needs to rediscover his form and start scoring regularly again.
Foster’s move would initially be temporary, but Houston Dynamo’s $7m purchase option means he could remain with the club beyond next season if they choose to make the transfer permanent.
