Ballon d’Or 2026: Harry Kane’s consistency earns top prize, says Ramiz Gouem

Harry Kane’s consistency and decisive contribution to Bayern Munich made him a deserving winner of the 2026 Ballon d’Or, according to football analyst and consultant Ramiz Gouem.

The official ceremony took place in London yesterday, with the England international recognised after an outstanding season. Kane was rewarded for his efficiency in front of goal and his ability to maintain the highest level of performance throughout the campaign.

“ The Englishman deserved it because of his consistency,” Gouem said.

Kane scored 73 goals during the season and helped Bayern Munich win the Bundesliga and Coupe d’Allemagne. Gouem also highlighted the striker’s World Cup campaign as an important part of his case for the award.

“He is the most decisive and the one who had the greatest impact,” the consultant added.

Kylian Mbappe finished second with 58 goals, while Lamine Yamal completed the top three. Gouem believes the final standings reflected three contrasting attacking profiles among the leading contenders.

He described Kane as the model of efficiency and consistency, while Mbappe’s strengths lay in his pace and ability to attack opponents. Yamal, meanwhile, stood out for his creativity and his capacity to create opportunities for his team-mates.

The composition of the podium also underlined the importance of attacking output in the voting for football’s most prestigious individual award, according to Gouem.

However, the analyst said the Ballon d’Or process gives forwards greater visibility than defensive players. Goals and assists can be measured clearly, whereas a defender’s positioning, interceptions, tackles won and tactical work are more difficult to quantify.

Those contributions remain fundamental to a team’s balance, but they are often less prominent when individual players are assessed. Gouem said this difference in visibility can influence how performances are judged, even when defensive work has a major effect on results.

“The Ballon d’Or rewards excellence, but not every form of excellence benefits from the same visibility,” he concluded.

For Gouem, Kane’s victory is therefore justified by his numbers, consistency and influence, while also raising a broader question about how individual achievement is measured in football. The award continues to place significant weight on attacking statistics, even though successful team performances also depend on collective and defensive contributions that are not always as easy to see.
