Liverpool have reached a full agreement with Paris Saint-Germain forward Ibrahim Mbaye but remain deadlocked with the French club over a reported €70m transfer fee for the 18-year-old.
The Reds are working to strengthen their attacking options before the end of the transfer window and have made significant progress in their discussions with the player. Mbaye is understood to have been persuaded by Liverpool’s Premier League project and has given the English club his clear preference.
However, that agreement has not been enough to move the transfer forward. Negotiations between Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain have stalled because of the fee being demanded by the Ligue 1 club.
Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly seeking €70m for Mbaye, despite his limited playing time at senior level. The Parisian club are taking a firm position, with the player under contract until 2028, and are showing no intention of making concessions over one of their promising young talents.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are categorically unwilling to pay such a substantial sum for a player who has so far had limited involvement in professional football. The difference between the two clubs’ positions has left the proposed move effectively frozen at club level, even though the player’s personal terms have been settled.
According to information reported by journalist Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport, the transfer fee remains the central obstacle in the negotiations. Liverpool and Mbaye have already reached a full agreement, with a five-year contract waiting for the player at the Merseyside club.
Mbaye’s commitment to Liverpool is also reflected in his decision to turn down other European approaches. The 18-year-old has chosen to give the English club absolute priority, attracted by the prospect of continuing his development in the Premier League.
That preference has created a clear contrast in the current state of the deal. On one side, Liverpool have agreement with the player and are seeking to complete the transfer. On the other, Paris Saint-Germain are relying on Mbaye’s long-term contract and demanding a fee that Liverpool do not accept.
With the transfer window closing soon, the dispute between the two clubs is entering its most decisive phase. Liverpool must now decide whether to improve their offer, while Paris Saint-Germain must determine whether their €70m valuation will remain non-negotiable.
For the moment, the agreement between Mbaye and Liverpool has not translated into an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain. The player’s preference is clear, but the transfer remains blocked by the gap over the compensation demanded by his current club.
