Julian Alvarez has ended his professional relationship with agent Fernando Hidalgo after almost a decade, following his disappointment with the way his future was handled during the summer of 2026.
The Atletico Madrid forward’s decision was reported by Sport, citing transfer-market expert Ruben Uria, who posted the information on X on 8 October 2026. Alvarez is understood to have held Hidalgo responsible for the failure to achieve his ambition of joining Barcelona.
The news has been welcomed at Atletico Madrid, who were frustrated throughout the summer by what they viewed as poor advice given to the player over the management of his future.
Chief executive Gil Marin publicly placed responsibility on people around Alvarez, saying: “There are people who were responsible for misleading and deceiving him.”
Alvarez is currently without an agent, although he and his family are already receiving numerous approaches from representatives hoping to take charge of his career. It is expected that he will appoint a new agent before long.
The 2022 World Cup winner remains under contract with Atletico Madrid until June 2030, meaning his immediate future at the club is clear. His principal aim, according to Uria, is now to rediscover his best form on the pitch at the Metropolitano Stadium.
Alvarez has been at the centre of uncertainty over his future during the summer, but the end of his association with Hidalgo removes the agent from his future negotiations. The player has instead directed his attention towards his performances for Atletico Madrid.
Uria’s report described the split as a decision by Alvarez to dispense with Hidalgo’s services after becoming dissatisfied with the handling of his situation. The relationship had lasted almost 10 years.
No replacement has yet been confirmed, but offers have been made to Alvarez and his family by people seeking to represent him. Until a new agreement is reached, the Argentina international has no agent.
The Barcelona ambition was not fulfilled, and Alvarez remains contracted to Atletico Madrid for the next several seasons. His stated priority, as reported by Uria, is to return to his highest level at the Metropolitano.
