Mohamed Salah will miss the rest of the season after suffering a hamstring injury, Egypt national team director Ibrahim Hassan has confirmed.
The 33-year-old forward sustained the injury during Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace, bringing an abrupt end to what is expected to be his final campaign with the club following his recent announcement that he will leave Anfield.
Speaking to Reuters, Hassan said: “He has suffered a hamstring tear and will require four weeks of treatment,” confirming the extent of the setback.
The injury means Salah’s Liverpool career may already have come to a close, with no further appearances expected before the end of the current season. His absence is a significant blow for the club, where he has remained a central figure in their attacking play.
Salah finishes the campaign with 12 goals and nine assists in 39 appearances across all competitions. In the Premier League, he registered seven goals and six assists, helping Liverpool maintain their position at the top of the table before being sidelined.
His contributions this season add to a remarkable spell at the club since joining from Roma in 2017. Over the course of his Liverpool career, Salah has made 435 appearances and scored more than 255 goals in all competitions. That tally places him third on the club’s all-time list of goal scorers.
During his time at Anfield, Salah has been part of one of the most successful periods in the club’s modern history. He has won two Premier League titles, as well as the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup, two League Cups, and the FA Community Shield.
Despite the current injury setback, there is optimism regarding his international future. According to Reuters, Salah is expected to recover in time for the 2026 World Cup, which begins on 11 June in North America. Egypt are scheduled to face Belgium, New Zealand and Iran in Group G, and the forward is focused on regaining full fitness ahead of the tournament.
Liverpool, meanwhile, must complete their season without one of their most influential players. Their remaining fixtures include away matches against Manchester United on 3 May and Aston Villa on 17 May, along with home games against Chelsea on 9 May and Brentford on 24 May.
Salah’s absence will be keenly felt as the club looks to maintain its form in the closing stages of the season, while attention also turns to how both player and team prepare for the next chapter.
