Dutch forward of Nigerian origin Bobby Adekanye has found a new club after signing for Singapore Premier League side Lion City Sailors.
The 27-year-old winger, who was a free agent before the move, has agreed a two-year contract with the Singaporean club as he begins a new chapter in his career.
Lion City Sailors confirmed the arrival of the former Liverpool academy player, describing the signing as an addition of pace, creativity and European experience ahead of the new season.
“Lion City Sailors are delighted to announce the signing of former Liverpool youth player Bobby Adekanye on a two-year contract – bringing speed, talent and proven European experience to the squad ahead of the upcoming season ,” the club wrote.
Adekanye joins the Sailors after a career that has taken him across several European leagues, including spells in Spain, England, Italy and Turkey.
The left-footed attacker is known for his ability to operate in different attacking positions, including on the right wing and as a second striker.
Lion City Sailors believe his technical qualities and direct style of play will provide an extra attacking option for the team.
The club highlighted his dribbling ability, pace and confidence in one-on-one situations as qualities that can help strengthen their forward line.
Adekanye developed through the youth system at Liverpool before beginning his professional career away from England. His experience across different football cultures has shaped him into a versatile attacking player capable of adapting to various systems.
Before moving to Singapore, the winger had attracted interest from clubs in the Netherlands, particularly from the Eerste Divisie, but eventually chose to continue his career in Asia.
His arrival represents another international addition for Lion City Sailors, who are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming campaign.
The Singaporean club believes Adekanye’s experience at the highest levels of European football will add value both on and off the pitch.
