Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain have reached an agreement in principle over the transfer of French winger Bradley Barcola, according to DaveOCKOP, with negotiations now at an advanced stage as the clubs work towards completing the deal this summer.
The Merseyside club are in the final phase of discussions with the Parisian side and are hoping to conclude the transfer during the current summer window. The proposed package is understood to be worth about €128m, including bonus payments.
However, the structure of the deal is reportedly more favourable to Liverpool than previously expected. The additional conditions attached to the transfer are said to be easier to meet than earlier reports had suggested, although the agreement still needs to move through the final stages before the transfer can be completed.
Barcola has emerged as Liverpool’s leading target after it became clear that the future of Yan Diomande would lie at another club. Liverpool had also shown interest in Diomande, but that pursuit is no longer expected to result in a move.
The change in the club’s priorities has placed Barcola at the centre of Liverpool’s recruitment plans. The reported agreement in principle with Paris Saint-Germain represents a significant step towards bringing the France winger to Merseyside, although discussions remain ongoing.
Barcola’s performances at club level last season helped strengthen his position as Liverpool’s preferred candidate. He scored eight goals and provided three assists in 28 appearances during the campaign.
Those figures form the basis of Liverpool’s interest as the club pursue a deal with Paris Saint-Germain. The proposed €128m valuation includes performance-related bonuses, with the terms of those bonuses now understood to be less demanding than had previously been indicated.
For now, the transfer remains at the negotiation stage. Liverpool are working to settle the remaining details with Paris Saint-Germain and hope the discussions will lead to Barcola completing a move this summer.
