RB Leipzig are considering a move for Olympique Lyonnais winger Malick Fofana as they prepare for the departure of Yan Diomande, whose transfer to Real Madrid has now been officially announced.
No concrete offer has yet been made for Fofana, the Belgium international, but Leipzig are understood to be assessing him as a possible addition to their attack. Olympique Lyonnais would be willing to co-operate with a transfer, should the German club decide to pursue the 21-year-old.
Diomande’s move to Real Madrid brings an end to speculation over his future. Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool and Arsenal had all been named among the clubs interested in the Cote d’Ivoire international, but Real Madrid have now secured his signature.
The transfer is expected to be worth at least €140m. Diomande enhanced his reputation during the World Cup, and his performances have contributed to the significant fee being discussed for his move to the Spanish club.
His departure means Leipzig must now plan for life without one of their attacking options. The club have already identified a possible replacement in Fofana, whose current market value is estimated at €30m.
Fofana is therefore viewed as a potential solution to the gap created by Diomande’s exit. While Leipzig have not yet submitted a formal bid, the player’s profile has placed him on their list of attacking targets.
