Lille OSC president Olivier Letang has moved to end speculation surrounding the future of Ayoub Bouadi, insisting the highly rated midfielder remains a central part of the French club’s long-term project.
Speaking on the “After Foot” programme on RMC Sport, Letang delivered a firm response to mounting transfer rumours linking the 18-year-old with several leading European clubs during the summer transfer window.
The Lille president’s comments come only days after Bouadi chose to represent Morocco national football team instead of France national football team, bringing an end to months of uncertainty surrounding his international future.
Bouadi is now expected to become part of Morocco’s plans ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, with the teenager viewed as one of the country’s most promising emerging talents.
Letang made clear that Lille have no intention of allowing the midfielder to leave easily, particularly after Bouadi recently signed a contract extension running until 2029. The long-term agreement has strengthened the club’s negotiating position and reinforced its determination to keep hold of one of its most valuable young players.
“Is there an alternative that guarantees him a starting position in a team that plays in the Champions League?” Letang said when discussing speculation over a possible move away from Lille.
The club president argued that remaining in northern France would provide the best environment for Bouadi’s development, allowing him to continue playing regularly while improving in a stable and competitive setting.
Lille believe the midfielder is still at a critical stage of his growth and that a transfer to one of Europe’s elite clubs could risk limiting his opportunities and slowing his progress.
Reports in recent months have linked Bouadi with clubs in the Premier League as well as French champions Paris Saint-Germain. However, Letang dismissed suggestions that a transfer fee of 50 million euros would be enough to convince Lille to sell.
“This amount is not sufficient at all,” he said.
The statement underlined Lille’s confidence in the player’s future value and reflected the club’s belief that Bouadi could become one of Europe’s leading midfielders in the coming years.
Letang also stressed that Lille are no longer under the same financial pressure that previously forced the club to part with several key players. According to the president, improved economic stability has given the Ligue 1 side greater freedom to resist lucrative offers and maintain the core of the squad.
That strategy now appears heavily focused on Bouadi, who has become increasingly important both tactically and symbolically within the team’s long-term ambitions.
The teenager’s performances this season have elevated his reputation in French football, with many observers viewing him as one of the standout young midfield prospects in Europe. Lille see him not only as a future star, but also as a cornerstone of a competitive project designed to strengthen the club domestically and in European competition.
Bouadi’s expected participation with Morocco at the 2026 World Cup could further increase his profile on the global stage and raise his market value even more. Yet Lille’s position remains unchanged.
For now, the club considers the Moroccan teenager indispensable, and any future discussions regarding his departure are expected to require both an exceptional sporting proposal and a transfer fee far beyond current speculation.
