Nigeria and England centre-forward Josh Maja has joined Le Havre from West Brom on a free transfer, returning to Ligue 1 with the French club. The 27-year-old has signed a contract running until 30 June 2027 and will wear the number nine shirt.
Maja moves to Le Havre after one season with West Brom, having joined the Championship club from Girondins de Bordeaux on a free transfer in August 2023. His switch to France was completed on 31 July 2026.
The London-born forward has experience in both English and French football. He has made 110 Championship appearances, scoring 19 goals and providing six assists, while his Ligue 1 record stands at nine goals in 47 matches.
Maja’s most productive spell in France came in Ligue 2, where he scored 16 goals and registered six assists across 38 appearances. He also has 15 goals in 24 League One matches and three goals from 15 Premier League appearances.
Before joining West Brom, Maja spent time with Bordeaux, Stoke City and Fulham. His spells at Stoke and Fulham came on loan from Bordeaux, with the striker returning to the French club after each temporary move.
Maja began his senior career at Sunderland after progressing through the club’s academy. He joined Sunderland’s youth system from Manchester City’s youth set-up, having previously been with Fulham as a young player.
The move gives Le Havre a forward with experience across England’s top three divisions and France’s top two tiers. Maja is right-footed and operates primarily as a centre-forward.
Le Havre have registered the transfer as a free move from West Brom, with Maja’s contract at the Ligue 1 club extending through June 2027.
