Coventry City moved up to 14th in the Premier League after beating Newcastle 4-1 at home in the sixth round of the 2026/27 season.
The result gave Lampard’s side consecutive victories and took them level with Manchester United on points, marking a significant turnaround after a difficult start to life back in the top flight.
Coventry lost each of their opening four league matches without scoring. They were beaten 3-0 away by Arsenal, 1-0 at home by Hull City, 1-0 away by Manchester City and 5-0 at home by Brighton.
Those results left the newly promoted side without a point after four games, with their goal difference also standing at minus 10.
Their fortunes changed in the fifth round when Coventry recorded their first Premier League win since returning to the division after a 25-year absence. They secured a 1-0 victory away to Nottingham Forest, before following it up with an emphatic win against Newcastle.
The back-to-back victories have lifted Coventry clear of the bottom positions and level with Manchester United in the table.
They now face two difficult fixtures as they look to extend their winning run. Their next opponents are Tottenham, who are currently 19th, followed by Fulham, who sit bottom of the Premier League.
