Kudus nearing Spurs comeback after lengthy spell on sidelines

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Roberto De Zerbi says Ghana midfielder Mohammed Kudus is nearing a return to competitive football after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The 25-year-old attacker has been unavailable since suffering a quadriceps injury during Tottenham’s 1-1 Premier League draw with Sunderland in January. The injury forced Kudus to leave the match early and began a frustrating period away from first-team football.

Kudus had appeared to be making good progress in his recovery before another injury setback interrupted his rehabilitation. The additional problem delayed his comeback and meant he was unable to play in Tottenham’s final seven Premier League matches of the season.

His absence also meant the former West Ham United player missed the opportunity to represent Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

However, Tottenham have now received a significant boost with De Zerbi confirming that Kudus is close to returning to full training with the squad.

The Ghana international is expected to resume working with his team-mates after Spurs complete their pre-season tour of New Zealand and Australia and return to London.

Speaking before Tottenham’s pre-season friendly against Auckland FC, De Zerbi said Kudus had made encouraging progress and could soon be available for selection.

“Kudus is very close. I think when we come back to London he will be available to start working with us,” the Italian coach said.

De Zerbi also underlined the importance of Kudus to his Tottenham squad as the club prepares for the new campaign.

“Its a great thing for us. Kudus is another important player,” he added.

Kudus’ expected return will provide Tottenham with an attacking boost as they prepare for the start of the new season. The midfielder’s ability to operate in different attacking positions makes him a potentially important part of De Zerbi’s plans.

The Ghanaian joined Tottenham after establishing himself as an influential player during his time at West Ham United, and the club will be hoping he can rediscover his best form once he is fully fit.

His injury problems have kept him out of action for several months, but his latest progress offers the prospect of a return at an important stage of Tottenham’s preparations.

For Kudus, the immediate priority will be to complete his rehabilitation and regain full match fitness before returning to competitive action. The midfielder will be keen to leave behind the injury setbacks that have disrupted his season and concentrate on making an impact under De Zerbi.

Tottenham will also hope that Kudus can return without further complications as they look to build their squad for the new campaign. His creativity, versatility and attacking ability could add another dimension to the team’s play.

With the new season drawing closer, De Zerbi’s confirmation that Kudus is “very close” to a return will be welcomed by Tottenham supporters and the Ghanaian midfielder himself.

The club’s next step will be to reintegrate him into full team training following the pre-season tour. If his recovery continues as expected, Kudus could soon be back competing for a place in the Tottenham side and looking to play a central role in the club’s ambitions for the season ahead.
